Firefighters there have been battling fierce flames ripping through vegetation, propelled in part by strong gusts of wind, as the wider Avila region suffers its worst blaze in recent history.

The plan includes reopening a campsite from which 4,500 people had been evacuated, as well as allowing elderly residents in another affected area to return to their homes, marking a positive step in combating some of the worst forest fires in the country's history.
