Upon their arrival, the deported Venezuelan nationals were transferred to the Hotel Santuario, also known as Hotel Santuario La Llanada, located in the coastal state of La Guaira for processing. When the powerful twin earthquakes struck the region on Wednesday evening, the hotel building collapsed. While some of the deportees have been confirmed dead and many others remain unaccounted for beneath the debris, a number of individuals managed to survive the collapse and escape from the ruined structure.

Dasilva stated that they have already checked local hospitals and the morgue without success, accusing local officials of failing to provide any clear answers regarding her whereabouts.

Workers then drilled holes through concrete slabs, pressing their ears to the openings and shining torches inside to listen for any signs of survivors trapped beneath the heavy debris.

The catastrophe also claimed the lives of the family of 38-year-old Argentine soccer player Lucas Trejo, who plays for the Venezuelan second-division team Club Sport Maritimo La Guaira. Trejo was at a team training camp in Caracas when the earthquakes struck and immediately returned to his home in La Guaira to find a horrific scene of destruction. After a desperate three-day search through the rubble, rescue workers recovered the bodies of his wife, Yanina, and their two children, Aaron and Ainhoa. The soccer club later published a statement on social media mourning the irreparable loss and offering condolences to Trejo.
