Brewers Sweep Dodgers for NL Pennant to Reach World Series

Facing elimination in Game 4, the Los Angeles Dodgers appeared poised to force a Game 5 after building an early 4-0 lead in the second inning. However, the 103-win Milwaukee Brewers steadily eroded the deficit, relying on relentless situational hitting and sharp plate discipline across the middle frames to even the score at 4-4 by the fifth inning.

Milwaukee then seized the lead through timely power hitting while its pitching staff stifled Los Angeles' counterattacks over the final innings, completing a 6-4 comeback victory before a stunned crowd at Dodger Stadium. The fourth consecutive win capped an emphatic 4-0 series sweep, avenging the club's 2025 postseason exit against the Dodgers and securing the franchise's place in the Fall Classic.

The contest's early momentum erupted in the bottom of the second inning when the Dodgers initiated a four-run burst. Kyle Tucker opened with a single that prompted Brewers manager Pat Murphy to summon reliever Dustin May. Teoscar Hernandez followed with a base hit, and Andy Pages drove a single up the middle to score Tucker for the first run. With two outs, Shohei Ohtani struck a 1-1 pitch at 113 mph, sending a 428-foot three-run home run into the right-center field bleachers to stretch Los Angeles' advantage to 4-0.

Milwaukee launched its response in the fourth inning when Brice Turang drew a walk, William Contreras hit a ground-rule double, and Jake Bauers drove both runners home with a two-run double. In the fifth, David Hamilton laced an RBI single to center to score Sal Frelick before Dodgers reliever Alex Vesia issued a bases-loaded walk that forced in the tying run. Milwaukee then grabbed a 5-4 lead in the sixth inning on Garrett Mitchell's solo homer to deep right, and Hamilton provided insurance in the ninth with a two-out blast off Edwin Diaz.

Milwaukee's bullpen delivered a decisive performance to close out the pennant, anchored by left-hander Aaron Ashby. Ashby worked three scoreless innings in relief, turning back repeated Dodgers threats in the late frames to record the save and secure the four-game sweep. His ability to prevent Los Angeles from capitalizing on late baserunners reflected the bullpen stability that proved central to Milwaukee's postseason run against the defending champions.

Following the victory, Brewers manager Pat Murphy said his squad did not enter the matchup to play patty-cake, stressing that the roster arrived hungry to seize its opportunity on an even playing field. Captain Christian Yelich and center fielder Garrett Mitchell emphasized the team's resolve after falling behind 4-0 in the second inning, noting that belief within the dugout grew stronger as the players stayed together and chipped away until securing the historic series win.

The sweep extinguished the Los Angeles Dodgers' bid to secure a historic three-peat, an achievement untouched across Major League Baseball since the New York Yankees won three straight titles from 1998 to 2000 and never accomplished by any National League club. Los Angeles faltered under persistent offensive slumps and injuries affecting Shohei Ohtani alongside other contributors on an aging roster. Although the Dodgers advanced the tying run to third base three times across the late innings of Game 4, they failed to deliver the decisive hit. Following the elimination, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts acknowledged he was unaccustomed to giving consolation speeches, stating that Milwaukee played flawless baseball and deserved full credit.

The outcome marked a milestone decades in the making for Milwaukee, which earned its first Fall Classic appearance since dropping a seven-game series to the St. Louis Cardinals in 1982. After leading the majors with 103 regular-season victories, the Brewers now enter a weeklong break before hosting either Cleveland or Tampa Bay in Game 1 on Oct. 23, where the franchise will pursue its first-ever World Series championship.
