According to a person familiar with the investigation, the Food and Drug Administration is investigating iceberg lettuce supplied to Taco Bell by Taylor Farms as a possible source of the escalating cyclosporiasis outbreak. Federal officials worked closely with Michigan investigators to trace the outbreak back through the supply chain. On late Thursday, July 16, federal agencies announced that the FDA's traceback investigation had successfully identified a single supplier of iceberg lettuce from Mexico that was used by the affected Taco Bell locations.

Because multiple outbreaks are suspected to be ongoing across the country, investigators are continuing to analyze the distribution network to determine if other businesses received the same imported Mexican lettuce.

To identify the source of the infection, state health officials have interviewed more than 1,000 individuals as part of their ongoing epidemiological investigation, coordinating closely with federal agencies to manage the parasitic outbreak.
