While a friend of Rondo was initially charged with King Von's murder before prosecutors dropped the case, Rondo, whose legal name is Tyquian Bowman, was never arrested or charged. Federal prosecutors argued that Banks experienced pressure on social media to avenge Von's death and made it known that he would pay a bounty to anyone who killed Bowman.

Bowman escaped the shooting unharmed, but his 24-year-old cousin, Saviay'a Robinson, was struck by gunfire and killed inside the vehicle. The government presented these events as the basis for the retaliatory murder-for-hire conspiracy charges.
