The drifting volcanic dust covered airspace over Lampung province on Sumatra's southern tip as well as parts of the capital city of Jakarta, prompting authorities to warn residents and visitors to maintain an exclusion zone of at least 3 kilometers from the active crater.

The ministry noted that paper tests showed positive indications of volcanic ash in the airspace around Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, leading authorities to extend the shutdown multiple times throughout Sunday.

Meanwhile, local fishermen suspended their maritime trips at sea after similarly reporting sore eyes and unfavorable conditions.
