General Motors announced a strategic partnership with Denver-based startup Peak Energy on Tuesday, June 9, to produce battery cells for the sodium-ion battery maker, alongside making a strategic investment of an undisclosed size in the company. The partnership aims to bolster an emerging U.S. battery supply chain to reduce reliance on China. GM plans to expand its presence in energy storage and data centers by promoting different battery cell chemistries and increasing vehicle-to-grid (V2G) capabilities for EV customers to address rising energy costs amid an artificial intelligence boom.
