Dutch semiconductor-equipment maker ASML on Wednesday raised its full-year sales and gross margin guidance for the second time this year, alongside reporting stronger-than-expected quarterly results as customers continue to ramp up production of AI chips. Following the announcement, shares of ASML, the world's sole manufacturer of extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography machines used for advanced semiconductors, jumped over 7% at the market open. The company now expects full-year sales to come in between 43 billion euros ($49 billion) and 45 billion euros, with a gross margin of 54% to 56%, up from its previous forecast of 36 billion to 40 billion euros in net sales and a 51% to 53% gross margin. CEO Christophe Fouquet stated that order intake remained 'extremely strong' in the first half of the year, prompting plans to increase both its 2026 low NA EUV capacity and 2026 Deep Ultraviolet (DUV) immersion capacity by 30%.

ASML Raises Full-Year Forecasts as AI Boom Drives Chipmaking Demand
Driven by strong demand for AI chips, Dutch semiconductor equipment giant ASML raised its full-year guidance again, sending its stock up over 7% at the market open.

Guidance Hike and Market Reaction

In its latest financial update on Wednesday, ASML raised its full-year sales outlook to a range of 43 billion euros ($49 billion) to 45 billion euros, representing a significant increase from its earlier forecast of 36 billion euros to 40 billion euros. The Dutch semiconductor-equipment manufacturer also upgraded its full-year gross margin guidance to between 54% and 56%, up from the previously estimated range of 51% to 53%. This revision marks the second time this year that Europe's most valuable company has raised its annual performance guidance.

The market reacted positively to the announcement, which accompanied second-quarter financial results that beat the consensus estimates compiled by LSEG. Following the release of these stronger-than-expected quarterly figures, ASML's shares surged by more than 7% immediately at the market open on Wednesday. The sharp upward movement in the stock price reflects robust investor confidence in the company's financial trajectory and its critical role in the global chip supply chain.

AI Boom Driving Chipmaking Demand

The relentless global demand for artificial intelligence (AI) chips has become the primary driver behind the surging orders for ASML's advanced equipment. As major technology firms and semiconductor manufacturers continuously ramp up their production capacity for AI-related processors, their reliance on high-precision manufacturing systems has intensified. This ongoing expansion by customers has directly translated into sustained demand for ASML's lithography systems, prompting the company's upward financial revisions.

Within the global semiconductor supply chain, ASML occupies a highly unique and critical market position. It stands as the world's sole manufacturer of extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography machines, which are absolutely essential for producing the most advanced and sophisticated microchips. As the rapid proliferation of AI applications fuels the need for high-performance computing power, ASML's exclusive capability to supply these cutting-edge machines positions it at the center of the global tech infrastructure expansion.

Strong Order Intake and 2026 Capacity Expansion Plans

ASML Chief Executive Officer Christophe Fouquet highlighted the company's robust operational momentum, stating that order intake remained "extremely strong" during the first half of the year. This sustained influx of customer commitments reflects the urgent need among global chipmakers to secure advanced lithography systems to support their long-term production roadmaps.

To address this high level of demand, Fouquet announced that ASML will target a significant expansion of its manufacturing capabilities. Specifically, the company plans to increase both its 2026 low numerical aperture (low NA) EUV capacity and its 2026 Deep Ultraviolet (DUV) immersion capacity by 30%. This dual-track expansion strategy is designed to ensure that ASML can sufficiently supply the industry's requirements for both leading-edge and mature semiconductor manufacturing technologies in the coming years.
